Just Call Me Ina Garten

Last night I successfully made tacos all by myself which I personally thought was a big deal since I have never had to really make my own food in a strange kitchen or without the help of my mom a phone call away. Yesterday I found a grocery store too that is only about a ten minute walk from the apartment which is very nice to have and although it was stocked with everything I could want what it doesn't have are paper towels....or napkins....like in this entire country. I have no idea what Australians do when they need paper towels or napkins at home or how they clean up any kind of mess but I personally would like some Bounty quick picker uppers over here. Oh also I found a sandwich place and got a classic ham sandwich and on the menu it said it came with rocket. I wasn't gonna ask what that was since I didn't want I'm an American stamped on my forehead but once I got the sandwich I realized they meant lettuce. So my first discovery of Australian lingo is that rocket can sometimes mean lettuce. I am starting to feel more settled in and am even getting over this jet lag pretty fast although it still hits me a little at about 9PM I start to get really tired.

Australian television is also interesting here because I did not realize how much they talk about America here. They always have a correspondent in Hollywood to tell of the latest news including everything from Hollywood actors to the gun control laws. I have about 5 channels on my TV and they also show a lot of American TV shows including The Big Bang Theory which I love and some movies every night so I don't feel that far away from home. Today I will be mastering the bus schedule and finding my way downtown and since it took me almost a year at Carolina to master the buses this should be interesting. Well I hope everyone is doing well and will be sure to post pictures later of my adventure!
Love,
Ashley
